What is Latina Writing Room?

A creative, bilingual space where Latina-identifying students come together to write, share, and amplify their own stories—with support from Latina mentors and writers. It blends writing practice with cultural empowerment, emotional exploration, and community-building. Think of it as part writing workshop, part safe-haven, and part storytelling incubator.

What Students Can Expect

  • Cultural & Identity Exploration: Open sessions for readings by Latinx/BIPOC authors—poetry, essays, short stories—that reflect themes of culture, identity, family, and language. Students use these as springboards to explore their own narratives.
  • Bilingual Workshops: Activities are offered in both English and Spanish (or Spanglish), letting students use their full linguistic range and feel seen in both languages.
  • Mentorship by Latinas: Workshops are led by Latina writers, educators, and college students—all role models who share similar backgrounds and lived experiences.
  • Guest Presenters: Special sessions might include guest poets, authors, and artists, bringing real-world insight and inspiration to the group.
  • Community & Support: A welcoming, sisterhood-like environment where participants listen, give feedback, and encourage one another in a space of shared experiences and growth.
  • Publish & Perform: Some programs offer opportunities to perform or publish your work collectively, fostering pride and real-world engagement.

Latina Writing Room is more than a writing class—it’s a culturally affirming creative collective that empowers Latina students to explore and express their voices through bilingual storytelling, multimodal art-making, and peer/community support. Expect dynamic writing prompts, deep self-reflection, group camaraderie, and opportunities to really share your voice and heritage with the world.
